Taxi / Hackney Carriage Medicals

If you wish to apply or renew a taxi licence, you will need to complete a medical examination. The general regulation for taxi drivers require you to meet the same fitness to drive standards as the DVLA Group 2 licences.

However, each local authority (council) determine what the medical consists of and whether the examination can be conducted by any registered doctor or only your own GP, so it is important you check this before booking.

What does our service include?

At Getting A Medical you will be seen by a GMC registered doctor who will assess your fitness to drive. The examination on average takes around fifteen minutes and tends to cover the following areas:

• Vision
• Cardiovascular
• Endocrine system
• Musculoskeletal
• Neurological
• Psychiatric

What do you need to bring with you?

1. Photo ID
2. A copy or printout of your medical history from your GP
3. Glasses / contact lenses if worn and your most recent prescription
4. Details of any medical conditions you have and list of medications you have been prescribed
5. A blank medical from provided by the council
6. A urine sample if required (can be done at the clinic)

Important note:

It is your responsibility to ensure the local authority allows you to have the medical completed by an independent doctor i.e. a doctor who is not your GP, before making the booking.
